When we stood in the queue outside, I’m sure the dude was ready to kill me. Another day in the city and another place to wait to get into. I understood why he was anxious, I was getting anxious too, was I at the right place? (It really didn’t seem like it.)
Hidden in between the bustling streets and grandiose landmarks stood what initially seemed like a small little place. And because it seemed like a small little place, I intentionally avoided looking at the hubby. I stood my ground though. Other people were in the queue too. This must be good (I say with gritted teeth).
In my research, the 24 hours before we jetted off, this place really stood out. Like really stood out! Along with the other few hundreds of places I needed to visit this was up there at the top. I was not going home without visiting.
Why the name 26? As with every place I visit I need to know, so why 26? why not 20, or 10 or even 27?. Shall I tell you? it really is simple, I’ll quote it directly from there website actually
“its about the right temperature. 26 degree is the best degree”
Personally I prefer 35 and above, but maybe when and if I ever open up a Mediterranean themed jungle restaurant in Budapest, I’ll save the name for that – One can dream right?

Once we got nearer the entrance, it all opened up, and my heart warmed up. This is exactly what I wanted, this is exactly what I hoped for, this was exactly what I thought it would look like and more. Even the hubby was impressed, if ever ‘never judge a book by its cover’ was quoted, this was the moment.

The floor opened out to warm wood flooring, huge open glass ceiling brought in the light, tones of orange warmed up the place, greenery falling from every corner, uprooted banana trees, palm trees, ivy and every other green plant you can think of. And the parasols, just the perfect touch.
It was a Mediterranean dream. Away from the October chills outside, we were brought into the warmth of 26 degrees.

We missed breakfast by all of 5 minutes (damn flipping queue) so it was not an option, I did really want to try their breakfast as it looks absolutely amazing, but now will have to save it for the next trip.
The menu still looked amazing regardless. For drinks I opted for a Golden Chaii Latte – which I later realised was a mistake. Don’t get me wrong it was good, but it was what I call ‘sick drink’ as in when I am ill, Mama always makes me this drink. For my Indian readers, you’ll know this ‘Haider waro kheer’.

Yup. I did that. I went to Budapest to have ‘Haider waro kheer’, never will I live that one down!

The hubby actually thought he was in the Mediterranean and opted for a Mocktail for Breakfast (the horror!). It was a strawberry and lychee Mocktail, it wasn’t actually on the menu, but he explained that he wanted a non-alcoholic drink and the waiter kindly chose this for us, and it was good!
For our now late breakfast/brunch I opted for the Fresh Yemini style Falafel with humous and tahini, and the hubby who really was in holiday mode went for the Chocolate and Tahini brownie, lemongrass and coffee sauce with Amerena cherry.

We both enjoyed it so much! it was perfection and the best start to the day. The hubby even tried a falafel or two, which doesn’t usually fit in with his option of chip cob when we normally go to dining places like this.

26 is definitely a world away from the hustle and bustle of Budapest, from the venue, aesthetic, the choice of foods and drinks, all the way down to the staff who were pleasant, charming and also so at ease regardless of the queues outside.

Whether you’re a foodie, a plant lover, or simply someone looking to enjoy a lovely day out with some bite sized food, TwentySix Budapest is the perfect destination. So, next time you’re in Budapest, make sure to add TwentySix to your itinerary – you won’t be disappointed. I know ill be going again, and hopefully beat the queues to get in for the breakfast.
