Hi Dudettes
The hubby and I needed some ‘We time’, and although that usually means a dinner date or a shisha night, I decided to take full advantage of him and his little credit card and booked us in for a one night stay at The Malvern Spa Hotel in Birmingham.
Why Birmingham? Well because the hubby doesn’t like driving, and I don’t like driving when he is next to me, and so in order to make sure that this one night stay starts off right, I had to make sure its not too much of a drive away.
He is usually quite happy driving within 60 minutes. One minute over and the tantrums begin. So my motto for trips with him are to stay local.
Arrival at The Malvern Spa Hotel
The Malvern is a spa hotel in the Worcestershire Hills (just a little on the outskirts of Birmingham). I’ll be honest it was a little underwhelming when we parked up. Sitting right opposite a shopping centre and a main road.

The reception area was quite small, but check in was quick and smooth, the staff were very warm and welcoming. She asked about our day, and got us checked in quite swiftly.
Our room keys along with robes and towels were handed to us and we were advised to settle ourselves into our room, get changed and then once we were ready to come down to reception and they would walk us around the spa and the hotel in general.

The Room
Breathe out. We didn’t settle in our room. We quickly dropped our backpacks, got changed and headed downstairs.
Care to explain? Of course. Lets do this.
The room was basic, like a normal premier Inn room. In all honesty that’s on me, I did opt for the basic room, maybe the other rooms are bigger and better. The Television was as small as a Ipad (which the hubby always finds humorous)
After changing we headed back downstairs to the Spa
The Spa at The Malvern Spa Hotel
With the crazy that is our life, the spa was exactly what we needed to unwind to allow the body to slow down, to get away from the socials, and just enjoy each others company. Although there was not a lot of talking going on (we work together, so honestly most of our talking is done day in and out). We just enjoyed not talking about, home, work or the kids.

The spa boasts crystal steam room, salt grotto, herb sauna, and kelo sauna. The foot baths were not working, which was a disappointment, as I always look forward to this.

An indoor hydrotherapy pool which opened up to outside was definitely the highlight of the spa. Outside sat loungers and also the spa pods, which I’m finding a lot of spas are now doing, and I love them! It gives the whole ‘I’m abroad’ feel to it (weather permitting obviously).
The spa staff were amazing, all of them! I love when I go somewhere and the staff all seem happy to be working, that’s a highlight for me. I found that in Ragdale Hall, and this is probably the next place where I found it to be the same.
Cleanliness
Constantly cleaning, constantly changing the wet towels for new ones (without being asked!) I loved that! and so attentive to our needs. So helpful and charming.

Also drinks were allowed poolside! The highlight of every spa experience for me. Being a modest dresser, and wearing a burkini, I hate that I have to move to a bar/restaurant to get in the drinks. Our burkinis do not dry quite as fast and we are constantly wet, which can really make moving around quite uncomfortable.

The hubby surprised us with some non-alcoholic Mocktails and I forgot that I was in Birmingham, or the room, and I also forgot the ipad sized television hanging on the wall.

We spent a couple of hours here and it really was pure bliss.
An hour before dinner we headed back to our room to get ready.
Dinner at The Grovewood
Dinner was included in our overnight stay and it was at ‘The Grovewood’ which is inside the spa hotel. Its a nice small cosy restaurant. Candlelight dinner and hushed voices. I was quite happy here.

I don’t need to tell you the menu was not to the hubbies standard do I? He was happy with his Chip cob which they catered for.
I opted for the Soup of the day; mushroom soup, with garlic bread.

And for mains the Linguine with tomatoes, roasted aubergines, basil, red onion, rocket and oregano pesto, which i devoured! it was absolutely spot on.

After dinner we headed to the spa lounge which was set up with soft lighting and candles. And we relaxed into the late evening.
We slept like babies at night, its amazing how a spa can make you completely detox into sleep.
Breakfast
Breakfast was also included in the package, we had ourselves booked in for 9.30.
Spa access was available from 7.00- 11.00, but we decided that sleeping in was the better option. No regrets there.
Breakfast was served at The Grovewood.

We had the option of cereals, yogurts, fruit, croissants, and they also made fresh breakfast with omlettes, eggs, sausages, bacon etc, which was to be ordered and served fresh.
I’m not really a breakfast as soon as I get up person, so the croissants, fruit and a hot cup of tea was perfect for the both of us.
After breakfast, we went upstairs, gathered our bags and left.

Honest Verdict of The Malvern Spa Hotel
Our one night stay at The Malvern was definitely what we needed. The spa was beautiful, a little small to what I’m usually use to, but really nice nevertheless, the staff were amazing! each and every one of them. We felt at ease here.
Few disappointments do come in, firstly I expected a little more of the room, purely because its a spa hotel, it lacked the warmness in the room, but I did opt for the basic room, so ill take that on the chin. That one is on me.
Another thing that struck me was, we had to get changed in our room, and also after spa use, we had to get changed in rooms again. I was not a fan of that. I love my hotel room looking pristine until the next morning, but because we had to use it on the day it didn’t have that ‘hotel room’ feel (am I sounding spoilt here?)
Apart from that I have no other qualms.
Pricing and Booking
A overnight stay with spa access, dinner and breakfast cost £259 (bargain right!!) and I think this really enticed me in. Treatments are available at an additional cost. We didn’t get to book ourselves in as they had no availability on the day.

The question I always ask myself after every experience is ‘Would I go again?’ because this truly answers the real verdict. My answer is for an overnight stay maybe not, if I found a good deal on the spa, I probably would, but it would have to be a good deal, as the spa is quite small to a lot of spas I have previously been to.
For £259 I cannot complain too much, we got the overnight stay, spa, the dinner, breakfast and some quality time together. That itself was priceless.
Now I’m starting to wonder will the hubby mention ‘We time’ again, anytime soon? because I’ve spotted another spa I need to get to.
