To be able to sit in a car on a cold wintry day, drive an hour away and come across a beautiful setting was a luxury I forgot I had. It took a while this time round to scoop the girls together for a spa day. Life was taking over and we were pretty much in hibernation mode as you do when the temperatures start to drop.
Our usual spot being Ragdale Hall, I decided on a little something different this time. The girls knowing me left me to do everything, including the driving. I was a little hesitant. I’ve built up quite a bit of a reputation of just ‘knowing’ the best spots, and honestly, I don’t have a clue. I just usually book and hope for the best.
Till today my ‘book and hope’ has not failed.

This time we ended up and Hoar Cross Hall Spa for the twilight experience with lunch.
Hoar cross hall is also a hotel, but we were here for the spa experience. Set in Staffordshire, the Hotel looked amazing on the beautiful grounds of Needwood Forest, with old Victorian style features, stained windows, high ceilings, all of which I can’t show you any pictures because we went on a cold December evening at 6, and so it was already midnight dark.
Maybe next time? In the Day time?
The spa had a completely separate entrance, but it did not disappoint. My girlies were already chuffed, though keep in mind, the expectations they have of me, puts me on edge every single time. I breathed out. This was perfect.
The reception was huge and grand, yet soft, warm and homely. We already felt settled.

The Spa area was so much more bigger than I anticipated, huge Swimming pool areas, hydrotherapy pool, heat and ice suite, foot massage area, body jets, sauna, saltwater pool with star lit cave, two whirlpool, plunge pool, various different relaxation room’s.
Pictures to follow;
A two course meal was also included in our stay- this takes place at ‘Hugo’s’. The first time I went was in December and they had a Christmas festive platter going on, we went for the vegan option. I’m just going to say that I am so glad that I had arranged a picnic platter before we came in, because it was awful. We picked on it, happy knowing that we still had food left in the car on our return.
But having said that on my second visit in February- YES! I went again, we ordered off the menu. We ordered the Moroccan – spiced Butterbean vegetable tagine. Ginger soy and chilli salmon with warm lentils and flash fried vegetables, and the superfood salad, with a side of sweet potato fries and it was perfection! Perfection as in for a Spa definitely up there in one of the good ones.
We were also given a detox box- which was the cutest thing ever, it was to put our phones in so that we can enjoy the experience. Did we do that? Of course not, but we did take the boxes home.
My Honest Verdict
Right, time to be honest. Really and truly honest. This spa is worth it for the price, We paid £55 per person for the twilight which gave us access to the spa between 6.30-9.30 and included with 2 course meal. It was a perfect day out- so good I went twice right…. might even contemplate a third time…
But…
Yes there’s a BUT.
Cleanliness.
Having been to a far amount of spas, cleanliness is a key point. Here the cleanliness wasn’t there, water all over the floors, as you go through to different areas, water cups left around, towels left around. It felt more like a community swimming leisure park. I don’t even remember seeing anyone cleaning. When booking my second visit- I made it clear to my girls, get your slippers, its a fantastic place, they just don’t clean up.
Would I recommend it?
For £55 for an evening to get away to a Spa- In a heartbeat. Be prepared for the cleanliness part, and you’ll have a amazing day. Hoar cross hall also has loads of Offers on where you can add overnight stay with breakfast for a additional £65 per person which is a bargain to be honest.
